22 Minute Hard Corps: Week 1

Today is the day I fly home! I’m super excited to see my hubby, my kids, my pups, my turtle, and to sleep in my own bed! Getting my workout in was non negotiable because sitting on my bum for 6 hours on the plane today is going to kill my Fitbit step goal 😉

Day 1:

Cardio 1 & P90X3 Yoga

I have to admit it was a little awkward doing my workout in front of everyone else working out in the hotel fitness center. It was great to be a sweaty beast and know that the results I am getting now are far better than the results I was getting running on the hamster wheel. I definitely missed Tony for the last 60 days ❤ I have to say that as much as I hate burpees, I love that they are numbered in this program. I think I push myself harder knowing that I have to hit 25 versus only having to do as many as I can in 45 seconds. Since I’ve become accustomed to the 30 minute workouts of Max:30 I decided to add some of Tony’s P90X3 yoga into the mix. Also waking up with a kink in my neck, it gave me some hope that maybe it would help that go away(it didn’t but it was worth a try.) I told myself I’d only do 10 minutes but I am so NOT flexible and it felt good to stretch. If you don’t use it you lose it and I’ve definitely lost a lot of the flexibility I had when I first completed P90X3.

Day 2:

Resistance 1 & Core 1

I was supposed to do Core 1 yesterday but since I got caught up in doing my yoga and was on the road without my calendar I decided to do it today. I decided to wear my weighted vest today too and boy howdy it’s intense. Resistance 1 had 5 moves, push ups, pull ups, squats with a thrust, lunges and sit ups with a punch(aka crunch punch, I think you should have named it that too Tony. 😂) Of course there was a bonus round because you have to use all 22 minutes!

Day 3 & 4:

Cardio 1 & Resistance 1

So it’s Thursday and I’m doing yesterday and today’s workouts to get caught back up. I am pretty anal about staying with my schedule these days and not falling behind, yet I still skipped yesterday. I usually wake up earlier and get my workout in before we leave for anywhere but I over slept and I promised the boys we would get in the hot tub before bedtime. I know life is rough 😂 But by the time we were done it was after 8 and I closed my eyes for a minute and was out. My body is still adjusting to being in Nashville for a week and not getting enough sleep. If I would have had to double a Max:30 workout I may have felt differently but 22 minutes times 2 isn’t that bad. Sure I was soaked and I didn’t have weights or a pull up bar but I got it done and I feel good about being right back on schedule. I was planning to get some yoga in yesterday but since I didn’t I think I’ll aim to do that tomorrow.

I could have said no to working out today since we were on “vacation.” I could have said, I don’t have a DVD player I can’t workout today but thanks to my handy dandy Beachbody OnDemand, that excuse wasn’t usable… PS I laid a towel on the ground so I didn’t have to lay on the floor of the hotel room during the ab work. (Yup, I’m a bit of a germophobe. Def won’t share my water bottle with you, and yes I know I’m weird. My husband tells me all the time.)

Day 5:

Cardio 2 & 10 minute run

Hello gorilla crawls! I did not miss those… BUTT my hind end and my legs need the work. I know that those are going to kick my bootay into shape! Sometimes I forget that cardio isn’t just running or cycling, it means you get your heart pumping and your lungs going too. With all of today’s moves they were definitely doing that.

Did I mention that I signed up for a Spartan Race??? Well this morning I did and I feel so good about it. That’s why I’ve decided to start incorporating running back into my routine. I know I’m a glutton for punishment. But I’m making sure to take training slow because I know that when I get excited, I tend to push myself into injury…

Day 6:

Rest Day 🙂

Found this rock on our outdoor adventures today and it cracked me up so I had to share it with someone! 😉

Day 7:

Resistance 1

Went to bed super early last night, I know I’m such an old lady going to bed early on a Saturday night. I needed the sleep though. Woke up to having a bible study with this hunk and a workout together! I’m super excited that he’s committing to killing 22MHC twice a week with me, crazy right? I think he’s been seeing(and enjoying) my results and is no longer a skeptic, my hard work is finally paying off. I couldn’t help but smile the entire workout, even the hard parts. I LOVE having a workout buddy, ask my kids, I bribe them every chance I get! Troy and I are both in agreeance on how we feel about push ups and pull ups, not our favorite moves. I have to give this guy props because he’s got degenerative disks in his back and has limited movement in his elbows from breaking both of them at once but he still powered through with minimal complaints, even if he doesn’t look super cheerful during our sweaty selfie ❤

22 Minute Hard Corps

22mhc transformation.jpg

What is the 22 Minute Hard Corps?

This is my favorite program. Completed one round in April & May, plan on doing a second one starting August 1st. I kicked butt on my nutrition the first month. The second month, not so much. We went on vacation so I let that be an excuse not to be 100% good. 22MHC is a boot camp inspired program. You get cardio and resistance knocked out in 22 minutes.

Who the 22MHC is For…

You and me… Seriously though, this program is for anyone. In shape, out of shape, you’ve got this. 22 minutes is only a minuscule part of the day and that’s what makes it easy to commit.

I couldn’t help but think of Mike Wazowski singing this when I started writing.

The Low Down

The workout program by Tony Horton is an 8 week program designed to get you results in a minimal amount of time. There is a bonus week called “Hell Week” which includes daily doubles. If you ever played a high school sport, you know that means two workouts a day!

The workouts are intense but they are simple enough that you can do them right off the bat. There are six, 22-minute workouts each week and a few core workouts thrown in the mix, if you are looking for a little more ab challenge. 22MHC comes with the same portion control program as the 21 Day Fix, super simple and designed to help you get results too.

There’s a modifier in the group who you can follow until you’re up to speed with the rest of the platoon. And I’ll be there when you need a push. Failure is not an option. I’m going to do what it takes to power through this program in just 22 minutes a day. _Tony Horton_

The Trainer

Tony Horton, you may know him from P90 or my other favorite program by him P90X3. He is all about maintaining youth through exercise and nutrition. One of his quotes that gets me every time is “Aging is for idiots!” He’s kind of goofy, like when you’re a little kid and your dad acts goofy to try and embarrass you goofy.  Check out his Facebook page and get to know him a little better.

The Moves

When you hear Tony talk about this program you here “back to the basics” a lot. There are lunges, push-up and pull ups and of course there are a few burpees involved, but it wouldn’t be boot camp with out them right? Most movements are simple and do able by anyone. There is a modifier for all moves and if you pay attention there are a few different variations for most movements. “Do what you need to do to stick with the platoon! If you are exhausted, march on your feet until you can get yourself back in the game!” I love the circuit style of this program because if your legs get tired during one move the next is different so they sort of get a break before doing the first move again.

The moves are hard but something about these Mountain Squats just whoops my butt! You use a little bit of everything to get this move done.

I even got my kids in on the action. Now that I’m doing a 30 minute program they want nothing to do with it. 22 minutes was just short enough to keep them involved. They didn’t have the best form but they enjoyed laughing at me and pointing out that I was a sweaty pig!

My nutrition may have been off but it was great to be able to get my workout done in 22 minutes and then get ready for the day before the family had crawled out of bed most days!

What’s Included with Your 22 Minute Hard Corps Workout Program:

When your program arrives in the mail, you will open up the package and probably think there isn’t much to it. But, you’ll soon see that the Fix is not a starvation based diet. Yes, the containers look small but I was never hungry on the plan. If you are I’ve heard you can add an extra green container.

Here’s exactly what’s included:

  • The Workouts: The workouts that go with the program automatically and a couple bonuses! They are:
    • Cold Start: 12 min
    • Cardio 1: 22 min
    • Cardio 2: 22 min
    • Cardio 3: 22 min
    • Resistance 1: 22 min
    • Resistance 2: 22 min
    • Resistance 3: 22 min
    • Core 1: 10 min
    • Core 2: 12 min
    • {BONUS} P90X3-Warrior: 30 min
    • Battle Buddy: 22 min- {BONUS} if you order through me 😉

battle buddy

  • Rations For Results Nutrition Field Guide: Simple portion controlled eating plan with Tony’s flare.
  • Hell Week Challenge: The bonus schedule to optimize your results as a bonus week to the original 8 week program. (I will complete this next round!)

  • 24/7 Online Support: This is something useful that comes with any Beachbody product you purchase. It’s great for whenever you’re looking for support and/or motivation to keep you going when things get tough. I will be here to help you stay accountable, think of me as Drill Sergeant Darci!

What Equipment You’ll Need for 22MHC

You will be using a water bottle(so thirsty,) towel(so sweaty,) pull up bar/resistance band and a dumbbells/Pt Sandbag.

If you are going to be working out on a hard surface, you might like a mat for some of the floor work.

No Finishers Shirt?!?

To be honest I was a little bummed to learn I wouldn’t be getting a t-shirt upon completion of this program. Especially since it’s my soulmate program, legit, I love it! BUT. I learned that in the military Challenge coins are a big deal. If you earn one, you’re like the cool kid on the block. So now I’m stoked to have my coin sitting on my metal display. Just wish it was a hair bigger!

My Teams Results Using this Program:

Real people, real results! And because one person’s testimony isn’t enough right?!? I had so many people with awesome results, I just had to post them! Seriously, this program is for everyone!

If you aren’t into Shakeology(which you should be, think amazing vitamins and supefoods in a milkshake) you can also order the Challenge Pack with the Performance Line’s Recover and Energize Supplements.

PT Sandbag:  This bag was tested thoroughly and held strong. I used it for the 60 days and had no sand leakage. You can load it up with as much as 20lbs of sand. Definitely a game changer. It’s weird how tough it makes different moves with just a different momentum than a dumbbell.

The Portion Control System: This is the series of some really great, dishwasher-safe, BPA-free containers that are color coded, whatever fits into the container from the specific food group it’s intended for is what you’re allowed to eat. Here’s the breakdown:

  • One Green—Vegetables
  • One Purple—Fruit
  • One Red—Protein
  • One Yellow—Carbohydrates
  • One Blue—Healthy Fats and Cheese
  • 2 Orange—Seeds and Oils
  • Shakeology Shaker Cup— Shakeology cup, or my favorite water cup. Makes chugging down 25 oz of water a breeze!

Purchasing the items separately would cost:

  • 22 MHC DVDs – $39.90 (value)
  • Shakeology flavor of your choice on HD – $129.95 (value)
  • Portion Control Cups- $17.85
  • PT Sandbag- $34.95
  • Bonus workout Battle Buddy – $19.95 (value)
  • Free 30-day trial to the Team Beachbody Club – $11.96 (value)
