What is the 21 Day Fix?

Workout plan and meal plan on steroids! In my opinion it’s one of the best at home workout programs on the market. The meal plan is super simple to follow and who can argue with only 30 minute workouts? I’m going to break down what you get and what you can expect to get out of this program. I recommend this program for anyone that struggles with losing weight or food addiction. Abs are made in the kitchen 🙂

Who the 21 Day Fix is For…

The 21 Day Fix is a seven days a week, three-week workout program. It is set up to help you get in shape, not only from exercise but from eating healthy too. This plan is great for beginners/anyone who struggles with portion control.

The Scoop

The 21 Day Fix workout program by Autumn Calabrese was created to help you lose up to 15 lbs in 21 days through simple fitness and simple eating – through its Portion Control eating system and seven, 30-minute workouts each week. The part of this program that seems to change people is how simple the meal plan is. If it’s too big for the containers, it’s too much.

The chart shows you the amount of containers in each group set you get to eat, based on your calorie intake needs.

Is it a miracle pill that will make you lose weight effortlessly? No, but it will get you on track to meet your goals. If a weight loss product promises it will be easy, chances are it’s not good for you… This is the healthy way to get in shape!

Who the 21 Day Fix is Not For

I don’t think this program is intended for anyone who is already in really great shape and has a grasp on healthy eating. If you’re already working out, but need help with your diet, then this could also be the right choice for you.

The Trainer

Autumn Calabrese is responsible for the portion-controlled meal plan and awesomely short workouts of the 21 Day Fix. She is a mom of two and fitness competition competitor who understands simple is the easiest way to go for Moms and just busy people in general. The Moves

The moves in this program are fairly simple. Not a lot of crazy jumping around. There is a modifier on every video who shows you a less intense way of doing the workout. If you are a beginner this is great because you may not have full flexibility and need a smaller range of motion. Just because you’re modifying doesn’t mean you won’t see results. Finish the first 21 Days and do it again with the goal of doing the moves a little less modified. Push yourself to do better and get stronger each time!

When your program arrives in the mail, you will open up the package and probably think there isn’t much to it. But, you’ll soon see that the Fix is not a starvation based diet. Yes, the containers look small but I was never hungry on the plan. If you are I’ve heard you can add an extra green container.

What Equipment You’ll Need for 21 Day Fix

You will need some weights and a yoga mat to do the 21 Day Fix if you want the best results.

If you haven’t been working out recently you might be able get away with just using your own body weight for resistance. I personally recommend the hand weights, the added resistance will help build muscle faster.

A yoga mat is good for floor moves, especially if you have a hard wood floor.

I didn’t personally get my before picture but I’d like to share my after picture. I’m all about the hand weights in this routine! I tried to blur out my dirty bedroom lol! This is the leanest I’ve been since probably high school.

Last thoughts…

The 21 Day Fix is an at-home workout program that will get you in the habit of eating healthier and fix the American meal idea of super sizing everything. While the workout isn’t as intense as Cross fit, it still gets the job done.

The program was designed with every fitness level in mind, so it can be good to use for losing weight, toning up or just prepping for a weekend event with the 3 Day Fix.

The Fix diet focuses on clean whole foods, which we all should be eating more of. It does allow for a cheat treat here and there. To be honest I think that is what made the meal plan easier for me. A glass of wine instead of a carb once a week? Yes!!

My Fave 21 DF approved lunch!

Ingredients:

  • Grilled Chicken {red}
  • Spinach {green}
  • Salsa {purple}
  • Avocado {blue}
  • Spinach Wrap {yellow}

I measured each ingredient out into their appropriate containers and added them to my wrap. Obviously the wrap doesn’t fit into the container but it counts as one yellow portion. The amount of salsa allowed into the purple container was too much to use in my wrap so I only used part of it. Substituted the rest of the container for some raspberries in my oatmeal.

Oriental wrap-21 Day Fix Approved 

I’ve been on a wrap kick lately. A tortilla counts for one yellow container in the 21 Day Fix and 21 Day Fix Extreme meal plans, so does a slice of bread but who only wants a half a sandwich? Hence the wrap, I’m not really big on bread anyway unless it’s a sweet bread. I’ve been branching out and trying different things so bare with me while I taste new flavor mixes and share my thoughts. I really liked this wrap because you get a little bit of sweet, salty and crunchy, can’t go wrong with fruity, Mexican or Asian inspired dishes if you ask me. Plus it is filling. I always have a hard time including the nuts/seeds in my meal plan so this is a good way for me to get that added in too.  I should probably rephrase that, I could eat a bag of almonds or pecans by themselves but apparently you’re supposed to eat them in moderation so it’s better for me to only have the option of having a little cup.

Ingredients:

  • Chopped Grilled Chicken
  • Sliced almonds
  • 1/2 orange or a mandarin
  • Spinach
  • 1 tsp sesame style dressing
  • Spinach wrap

Step 1: Portion out all ingredients into color appropriate containers.

I really like Bolthouse Farms dressings. The Miso Ginger is yummy! Any citrus flavored dressing would probably pair well with this wrap. Only a teaspoon though 😉
